Malaysia In Brief

Malaysia is known as a tropical paradise offering a variety of attractions including cool highlands, magnificent beaches, idyllic islands, historic towns, vibrant cities, beautiful mixture of cultures, and the world’s oldest rain forests with a rich diversity of flora and fauna.   The country consists of the Peninsular Malaysia, which straddles the South China Sea at the tip of mainland Southeast Asia, and the states Sabah and Sarawak are on the island of Borneo. Malaysia is a multi-racial country with a population of 26.3 million; (2005) comprising Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban, Kadazan and other ethnic groups. Bahasa Melayu is the national language; while English, Mandarin and Tamil are also widely spoken.  Islam is the official religion but freedom of worship is practiced.  The country comprises of 13 states and three federal territories.  Nine of the states have hereditary rulers (Sultan), from which group the Supreme Head of State, the Yang Di Pertuan Agong (King) is elected to serve for a term of five years.  Malaysia practises a system of parliamentary democracy with the Prime Minister as the head of government.

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Brief

It began in 1931 as a school of Agriculture, and subsequently was upgraded to a university in 1971 as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (Agriculture University of Malaysia). its early focus was on tertiary education programs in agriculture and related areas.  In the 1980’s, Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM) expanded its scope of studies to other areas of science and technology. Later, in 1997, the name Universiti Pertanian Malaysia was changed to Universiti Putra Malaysia .  Presently, there are 16 faculties, 9 institutes, 2 schools and 12 centres offering various diplomas, Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. programs, besides providing professional and academic services.

The main campus is located on a 1214 hectare site in Serdang, Selangor, in close proximity to Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia.  UPM has a branch campus in Bintulu, Sarawak and an Oceanography and Marine Centre in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan Malaysia Brief

APEEC

The Centre for Extension, Entrepreneurship and Professional Advancement (APEEC) was established on July 1st 2006. APEEC operates through three units, namely Agricultural Extension, Entrepreneurship Development and Industrial Linkage and Professional Advancement and Life-long Learning. APEEC aspires to become a renowned entity in the areas of agriculture extension, entrepreneurship and professional advancement and other related fields through providing consultation directed towards efficient empowerment of personnel and human resource in churning human capital capable of transforming innovations for agriculture  advancement, sustainable  development, community well-being and wealth creation
